Background:
This study was conducted to examine the cost effectiveness of a new, topical cream containing acyclovir Zovirax (Zovirax®) 5% cream for the treatment of genital herpes virus infection. A retrospective analysis of the cost of acyclovir Zovirax 5% cream for genital herpes infection was performed at a dermatology clinic. Study design and statistical analysis were carried out. The analysis involved the treatment costs for the treatment of genital herpes infections, and the costs were then calculated. Results: The average cost of the treatment was approximately $5,600 for acyclovir Zovirax 5% cream, $5,800 for acyclovir Zovirax 5% cream, and $6,400 for acyclovir Zovirax 5% cream. Acyclovir Zovirax 5% cream was the cost-saving option of approximately $3,100 for acyclovir Zovirax 5% cream and $2,600 for acyclovir Zovirax 5% cream. Conclusion: Acyclovir Zovirax 5% cream is effective in treating genital herpes infection. This study shows that acyclovir Zovirax 5% cream can be effectively used to treat genital herpes infection, and it also provides cost-saving benefit to the patient. Further studies will be required to examine the efficacy of acyclovir Zovirax 5% cream in genital herpes infection.
